These scratches and swirl marks can occur from normal wiping, going through a touch car wash, using a snow brush in the winter, or even improperly washing/drying. 1. First, clean the car with car wash shampoo and dry using a clean shammy or air dryer.

5. Just like sanding wood, you would progress from a more aggressive pad and compound to a finer pad, and finer grain polish.
6. Check for a “haze,” or buffer trails, and/or fine scratches that can be left by fine-grain polishing.
